Trail running combines the beautiful outdoor scenery of hiking with the physical challenges of running. If you are the type that loves being in beautiful, outdoor settings, then trail running is something to consider.
In addition to the regular running benefits trail running is also a lot better on the joints. Running on hard surfaces such as pavement and concrete can be tough on the bones and joints. People who suffer from things like shin splints and knee problems often report that they don’t experience these problems while training.
As Donna Maguire mentions, heat is much less harder on you when you are running in the woods. Pavement just absorbs heat and increases the temperature of the air around it. Vegetation will not only cover direct sunlight but also gives a nice sensation of freshness.
Get a break from summer sun is actually one of the 7 reasons to switch to off-road running, or at least make it part of your training.
But over all these reasons, I would say the best is wilderness. It you are an outdoor lover the scenery and wildlife encounters will raise your spirit and charge your stamina
And if you have never run before, these 10 benefits of running will definitely put you out on the trails (or at least make you feel guilty if you don’t ;))
