XTERRA and the fun of trail running

A short note just to mention an article on signonsandiego.com talking about the XTERRA trail run series. It starts with the origin of the competition to get into some comments from former Ironman Hawaii champion Heather Fuhr. What I like about the article is how well it summarizes some of the reasons why do I like trail running:
“Running on trails, it’s like being a kid again, it’s much more carefree. You’re in the moment.”
“You’re out in the middle of nowhere, you get away from being around a lot of people or traffic. You can explore.”
“You don’t know what’s in store for you until you get there”
“We have coyotes, deer and cows get out” -just substitute with any animals in your area-
I’ll be progressively adding the 50+ XTERRA races for this year to the sidebar calendar.

G’day, I’m from Tasmania, Australia, and have been a runner for years, and love the trails. How big do you think this tour could get? Are we looking at something that could be big time in the world of trail running, and do you think it could attract a lot of attention, and therefore sponsorship dollars??
Christian, XTERRA is getting some popularity in the US. All trail activities are seeing more and more participation and XTERRA is not an exception. They have more than 50 races planned and quite some marketing in place.
How big will it get? Big enough to make dollars flow? Ah, good questions. You never know how things evolve, but they are definitely making some noise
