Book reviews: “Ultramarathon Man” and “Bunion Derby”

In the past few days I have read some reviews for three different books. First, a review in a religious context of Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner by Dean Karnazes. The article finds some connections between Karnazes’ devotion to extreme sports and religious faith. Interesting and curious approach to the book, though any religion analogies are just coincidental, as Karnazes himself points out in the comments section. A second shorter post describes the book as an exciting and inspirational read. It is getting pretty good reviews on Amazon (4 out of 5 stars, 128 reviews as of now), so it may be in my next order from the giant on-line book store.
The other two books are reviewed on the same post and can be categorized as historical books. They both relate the 1928 “Bunion Derby”, a footrace from Los Angeles to New York City. The first one is “ C.C. Pyle’s Amazing Foot Race: The True Story of the 1928 Coast-to-Coast Run Across America” by Geoff Williams and the second “ Bunion Derby: The 1928 Footrace Across America
by Charles B. Kastner. The author gives some good insight and good grades to both books, though his recommendation would go to Williams’ work.
