The 71 year old woman may be Japanese? the site with the info is in Japanese.
Personally I think it is time the MdS required a qualification, maybe similar points system as UTMB. It is, as far as I know, the most expensive race on the planet and although marketed as the world’s toughest footrace I doubt it would actually make the top ten toughest.
It is in danger of becoming a sponsored walk so with a qualification or maybe slightly tighter stage time limits it would at least become a race again.
I guess the article was taken off-line. I have replaced the link with one working at marathonguide.com
It’s surprising the MdS does not require some kind of “minimum” other than the entrance fee. I don’t think this would necessarily turn the race into a “walk” but it is also true that fewer participants would likely mean better support and organization. And, although everyone knows how tough the race is, a completely open race may lead to unprepared runners to try to bite more than they can handle and eventually to someone getting hurt. And that would be bad publicity for all extreme races
Miki Gorman is competing again?
It doesn’t seem to be a complete list of participants for this year yet and she is not on any of the short lists here
