Purchased 4 weeks before a 10 hour adventure race. Wore them around town to break them in and they seemed comfy. But when used on the terrain they were intended they failed miserably. These trail running shoes have no business at all being off road. The course i was on was a mix of dirt, bigger rocks and fist size rocks plus roots. In other words a normal mountain trail. The simple summary, flimsy. I felt every pebble, rock and twig through the sole and was absorbed by my sore feet. By the end of the run section my feet were really in pain from the impacts. This has never happened to me with any trail running shoes previous. These may be good for running on grass but have no business at all in ANY trail situation. To add insult to injury “both” the front rubber bumpers peeled down. I contacted New Balance directly and added pics to show them how the toes peeled but have not heard word one from them. Warning….buy something else as the 811 trail runners are junk

Thw New Balance 811AT IS NOT for rugged trails withe larrge rock, roots, and “crags”. It is for dirt, muddy, grassy trails as well as hards surfaces.
It performs well on these types of terrain.

I wore these on a couple of long hikes. I had no complaints about them then. But now I do have complaints. By design, the tread under the balls of the feet has gaps. When the tread is new, these gaps do not touch the ground, but as the tread wears down, in the gaps, the shoe’s inner lining touches the ground. So in some areas your feet have only two flimsy layers between them and the ground. Also even when they are new these shoes slip on wet surfaces. Finally the fabric of the upper shoe tore on the outer sides just in front of the arches. These shoes are no longer made, I believe, but they were not good shoes.

Thanks for the opinion on these New Balance guys. I think they are not sold anymore but it’s great to get insight for when it’s time to check out new models from NB.

Got something to say?
