Suffering: Why we Train and Race

June 14, 2008 · Filed Under Articles

Hard jogging

Scott from endurancejunky.com has pointed out two good readings about the relationship between suffering and endurance sports. As he says, there seems to be a kind of secret pleasure in enduring pain that makes athletes come back for more of this insane suffering. Maybe it’s on (everyone’s) DNA or maybe it’s just the outlet we need from the monotonous everyday life. In any case, I totally see it. The two articles he writes about are from a NYT blogger who is training to ride one of the 21 stages in this year’s Tour de France, and the other a writing from an author of several books on the Tour de France.
