ATRA organizes an annual trail race in the Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, CO, located just 35 minutes from Colorado Springs. Held in conjunction with the El Paso County Fair, the usual distance is 6k but this year’s edition was shortened. A rain and hail storm rolled in before the event and although it cleared out just in time for the start, the organization didn’t feel comfortable having the runners out with lightning in the distance. The race, sponsored by Teva, was so shortened to a 2 mile out and back.
More info on the race at the ATRA website (pdf) and a report written by the event coordinator and ATRA executive director, Nancy Hobbs and the final results here (pdf).
