One Backcountry.com (his main sponsor on this endeavor) employee will pair up with one of Karl’s friends or family members ( Karl’s father is with him on this initial days) to make a two-person supporting crew that will follow Karl with an RV and will be responsible for cooking, setting up camp, blogging about the run and any other need that may come up during those 47 days.
Thanks to a SPOT Messenger (one of his seven sponsors) we’ll be able to track Karl at all times. Just look for the “mini Karl” on the google map at whereskarl.com. It hasn’t moved much though yet. You can also enter in the weekly drawing to win featured gear (Marmot stuff, La Sportiva shoes, SPOT Messengers and Nathan Packs) if you guess how long it’ll take Karl to cover the distance each day.
Karl was interviewed a few days ago by Jill Gillman from the Salt Lake Tribune, an article where he gives some curious details on this record break attempt (like having 12 pairs of shoes ready for the entire run - all of them La Sportiva Lynx?? - ).
I’ll have an eye on Karl’s website for the nearly two months he will be out running on the trail and will post any important updates here.
Good luck Karl!
[Update 2008/08/05 3:20pm]: Karl is now on the approximate 15-18 mile stretch of trail between the intersection of the AT and Golden Rd. near Abol store and Nesuntabunt Mountain

This should be fun to watch play out over the next 2 months!
Yep. And seeing whereskarl.com is extremely slow (sometimes nearly down) I bet we are not the only ones interested in how Karl is doing!
