Ultramarathon Man: First Movie Reviews
August 6, 2008 · Filed Under Media
I missed the one-night-only premiere of Dean’s movie, but many people did not and we’ve got some early reviews and opinions. I guess a runner’s point of view on a film/documentary featuring a guy who runs 50 marathons in 50 days will be a biased opinion, but a bias that we, runners, adventurers, athletes, can all identify with. Here are some of those reviews:
- Running with the Runner Girl, “[the movie] is also about the making of the film, the staging of 50 marathons …, and the crew and people who helped make it all happen”
- Life is a marathon, “I loved that Dean felt it was important to keep the group together. He was interested in getting to know the people that ran with him in each state. He didn’t want to take off and leave them behind.”
- An Ultra Marathon Rookies’ Training Blog, “I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it, and how inspiring it was to see Dean finish another amazing feat”
- Ecoflip, “I admit, after watching the film, I was extremely fired up to take a run”
- Morgan gets thin, “I shed a tear or two (big surprise), and laughed a lot as well”
The movie is rated 7.6/10 on imdb.com. Hopefully it will be released on DVD sometime soon…

I thought the movie was decent. I don’t think it was as well put together as “The Spirit of the Marathon” that was released a while back. Any fan of Dean would enjoy this movie though. You get to know him on a different level then you could just by reading his book(s).
