SB6K Challenge - Left to right, Anne Lundblad, Rebekah Trittipoe, Jenny Anderson
To reach the summit of 40 North Carolina peaks above 6000 feet in seven days, with 15 of these peaks being unmarked and with no trails. That’s what three experienced ultra runners will attempt to accomplish this Summer. Anne Lundblad (42), Rebekah Trittipoe (52), and Jenny Anderson (35), all members of Team INOV-8, will trek for 300 miles – the 40 mountains will be connected on foot – in an average of 42 miles per day.

The challenge, defined by Carolina Mountain Club, has been given the name of South Beyond 6000 and will be used to raise funds for Project Athena, an organization to help enable woman battling physical illness or injury to achieve their athletic dreams. Anne Lundblad says on Project Athena website: “I am so psyched to be pairing up with Project Athena, as your organization sounds like an awesome one. [...] If Rebekah, Jenny and I can somehow be a part of helping another woman fulfill her dreams, that will make our adventure mean that much more.” Anne was also interviewed over at ncultra.org where she gives some more insight on the planning of this project.

We’ll be waiting for news on June 10, when the three runners will kick off their challenge. For more information head over to South Beyond 6000’s blog and if you want to contribute to the project, here is where you can do it.
