Nearly 600 runners came out Saturday for the 4th annual Mud Run, a five mile course of obstacles, push-ups, jumping jacks , hills, water, screaming drill sergeants and lots of mud. The race, sponsored in part by the U.S. Army Presidio of Monterey, a messy course set within the campus of California State Monterey Bay and is a lead-in event to the Big Sur marathon next month. Eric Palmer, 24, of Fort Ord, placed first in the civilian division with a finishing time of less than 32:22 minutes while Travis Hagelberg, 23, of Santa Maria CA, was the first to cross the finish line for the military division in 38:18.
